Everything you need to know about Lençóis Maranhenses and Charme Atins

ATINS AND LENÇÓIS MARANHENSES

When is the best time to visit the LenÇÓis Maranhenses?

The Lençóis Maranhenses are stunning at any time of year. The lagoons are full all year round. There are more than 60,000 lagoons, so there will always be a full lagoon.Between June and the beginning of September is the high season, with little chance of rain and warm temperatures. There’s also plenty of wind for kitesurfing. If you prefer a drier climate and want to avoid the intense tourist flow, the months of October to December are perfect. In January and February the rains start. The climate in Atins is calm, and it’s always hot here. This period is ideal for connecting with nature.
March to May is the height of the rainy season. The lagoons begin to fill up again, while ephemeral waterfalls are formed by the waters of the lagoons flowing into the sea, within the Lençóis Maranhenses Park. The scenery is fascinating for those who enjoy watching the landscape change. The vegetation also becomes greener and more exuberant. If you like a cooler climate and want to see nature in transition, this could be an interesting time to visit.

How far are the pousadas from the LenÇÓis Maranhenses National Park?

Atins is on the doorstep of the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. The park can only be visited by accredited 4×4 vehicles. It takes between 5 and 10 minutes to get from the lodges to the park in one of these vehicles.

Charme Atins properties

What distinguishes the Charme Atins pousadas?

The warm and hospitable service of the staff is always praised by our guests. Welcoming guests is our greatest passion. And, with the welcome of outsiders in mind, we were the pioneers in offering transfers so that visitors can get around the village and make the most of this destination.

What are the group’s restaurants like?

Maranhão cuisine, prepared by the best cooks in Atins, is our flagship. But the restaurants of the Charme Atins family also include Japanese and Mediterranean cuisine – always mixed with the unique flavors of the region. We also work with local ingredients, receiving, above all, shrimp and fish from local fishermen.

What is the architecture of the Charme Atins lodges like?

Designed with local wood and buriti roofs, our lodges are surrounded by gardens, creating serene and comfortable environments. The structures are naturally ventilated, but we also provide air conditioning and fans.

Can I bring my pet?

We love pets too, but unfortunately we don’t accept them at the hotel.

Relationship with the village

Do you work in partnership with the residents of Atins?

Yes, we have developed partnerships with local businesses, bars and restaurants, kitesurfing schools, masseurs, manicurists, landscapers, contractors and beach huts.

How is the relationship with the village and local businessmen?

The Charme Atins group arrived with respect for the community, seeking to understand the transformation the town was undergoing. After welcoming the inhabitants, we approached the residents’ associations to contribute to support organizations for young people, women and the needy. In order to make the project viable, we made contact with foreign and Brazilian businesspeople, as well as businesspeople from Atins. We tried to join forces so that, together, we could find sustainable development solutions to preserve the destination.

Is the staff at the pousadas made up of locals or outsiders?

Our staff is made up of 90% locals. Our aim is to develop tourism in the region in a sustainable way, training our employees and allowing them to grow professionally.
